Nanango
Nanango was originally the name of one of the four large landholdings selected by William Oliver at the end of 1842. A prospector named Jacob Goode was responsible for settling the township and he established an Inn from which the community grew.
One of Queensland's longest established towns, Nanango and the surrounding district offers visitors a variety of Queensland experiences. Nanango Shire features gold fossicking at the 7 Mile Diggings, "Tarong" one of Queensland's most modern power stations, the Meandu Coal Mine, natural and State Forestry Reserves and picturesque off-road country suitable for 4WD adventures.

Visitors to Nanango Shire must see the SB Maidenwell Astronomical Observatory, the Tarong Power Station Display, visit Taromeo (Station by appointment) or tour historic Ringsfield house.
Scenic drives in our Shire extend from the Bunya Mountains - to the Blackbutt Forest Trails. The Bicentennial National Trail invites hiking or riding, as does the Blackbutt-Linville Rail Trail.
